How can we be a people of radical welcome in a trauma-filled world?
In this intensive, we explore how hospitality can be extended as a form of trauma-responsive leadership.
Over this two-day course, we will look at how trauma works in personal, interpersonal, and collective aspects, and the skills needed to practice trauma-responsive presence and engagement. We will also discern how our unique talents, education, and experiences can be leveraged to benefit others.
Why Hospitality?
Hospitality creates a culture where all are welcome. It is an invitation to participate and contribute to working for the good of individual transformation and life-promoting social change. Hospitality says, “I see you, and I hear you,” and serves as an antidote to the trauma that fragments belonging in our communities.
By learning more about trauma and its effects, we can ensure that our hospitality fosters healing instead of re-traumatizing others. We will explore cultural frameworks of contemporary hospitality, along with the theoretical foundations of trauma-responsive engagement and leadership.
Through class discussion, case studies, and more, this two-day course will equip you to respond in a trauma-responsive way. This session will help you recognize, assess, and respond hospitably, compassionately, and effectively to care situations.
