CCDA Member Office Hours are a monthly chance to connect with CCDA staff and other members. It's your time. Share what you are working on. Ask questions. Have conversations. Build community. It's an open forum to spend some time together with a few other members and connect.

What are the tools and resources you’ve found most useful?

What challenges is your community facing?

What’s one thing happening in your community that you are excited about?

    Let's talk about it!

This is an opportunity for like-minded individuals in the community to share best practices in walking alongside families in a transformative way. Join us for the launch of the Disability, Neurodiversity, and Support People Network!

God wants to glorify Himself through the Church. For too long, the Church has kept the disability community and their families at arm’s length, not acknowledging God’s purposes for them in making His Body more complete and to become a better Witness to a world who needs a clearer image of Jesus.

This network is a safe place to discuss how the Church can integrate the disabled, neurodiversed, and their families. It is a safe place to seek healing from ableism from both inside the church and from the world. This is a place to figure out how to do life while managing our disabilities and/or supporting those with disabilities.

Please note: during the first half of the group, everyone will meet together. During the second half, people with lived experience and support people will split into two groups.

Our world is experiencing so much divisiveness and grief. Throughout this time it's important to learn to care for ourselves so we can care for others in the best way possible and continue the good work to which God has called us.

CCDA has created an opportunity to renew your spirit and create your own therapeutic toolkit through our Liberation-based Healing and Wellness: Practices for Self and Community class, led by Stephanie Moore, LICSW.

Learn liberation-based healing practices and biblical principles to form a framework to understand how our experiences shape ourselves and our communities. Experience greater holistic wellbeing and the ability to bring their best selves into our work. Utilize skills learned as takeaways and tools for use in your organizations and communities.

Here's what you can look forward to:

Part 1: Understanding Our Brains & Ourselves

We will use both a combination of healing liberation based practices and biblical principles as a framework for how we view trauma in our lives. We will discuss some basic neurobiology principles and explore what is happening cognitively for both ourselves and our community as a result of trauma and/or chronic stress.

    Part 2: Community Implementation

We will build on what we've learned about brains and behaviors to explore how it all shows up in our own communities. Practitioners become equipped with the tools and evidence based practices to address specific needs in their own contexts.

    Part 3: Prioritizing Our Wellbeing

It’s impossible to effectively help others if we don’t help ourselves. Our wellbeing is crucial in this work. We will explore practical tools and participants will create plans to address their own emotional needs so they can experience greater holistic wellbeing and bring their best selves into their lives and work. The tools we use in this class are part of replicable takeaways participants can use individually and in their communities.

Our spiritual and mental wellbeing is vital to loving ourselves and our neighbors well. When we know ourselves well and are equipped with practical tools and plans for addressing our own emotional needs, we experience greater holistic wellbeing. When we all live into our best selves our communities flourish. We hope you join us!

This year the CCDA Immigration Network is focusing on four themes: connection, formation, engagement and advocacy. By focusing this year’s efforts in these four specific areas, we hope to grow together in knowledge and partnership. In the area of engagement, our goal this year is to provide an immersive learning experience to CCDA practitioners.

    WHY

Many of the network participants are passionate about immigration, and work with immigrant communities in their local context. However, not many have had an opportunity to visit the US/MEX border to see and experience firsthand the landscape of the border, its people and its complexity; connecting the dots along migrant pathways from source communities, across the border, to their own backyards.

For this reason, CCDA desires to create a time and a space where practitioners, under the CCDA banner, can come together as learners, from different parts of the country, and participate in this immersive experience together.

    WHAT

Through a Border Encounter with Abara, a CCDA organizational member, based in El Paso, Texas, trip attendees will participate in a 3 day educational immersion experience. This encounter will be an invitation to listen, learn, and reflect on what they can learn from the border; who they are called to become, and how they can engage closer to home. They will learn about topics such as Global Migration & Latin American Realities, Dignified Storytelling & Ethical Volunteerism, Historic & Current Border Realities, the Impact of Xenophobic Rhetoric on Border Communities, etc.

The main desire with this border encounter is to provide a space where practitioners can sit together, to learn, to listen, to ask questions, to re-humanize relationships outside the news cycle, and to stand in solidarity with those who sojourn over many miles in search of safety.

Theories of change, logic models and measuring impact are essential organizational strength, and measuring effectiveness. Many foundations require them as part of the application process, but often these models do not capture the essence of Christian Community Development. CCD is not linear or sequential; neither are relationships.

What if those models could be reimagined? What if there’s another way to describe the foundational relationships in CCD? This class explores various theoretical frameworks, poses new models, and identifies relationship-based indicators. These ideas directly inform organizational structure, strategic plans, impact evaluation, and ultimately communication with funders. Join Sonja Schappert Howden from Rooted.to for Part 1 of this class.

Now that we have an understanding of logic models, impact, and transformational relationships, how do we put it all together? How do we incorporate these models into our strategic planning process and use it to effectively run our organization?

We’ll spend time brainstorming various models based on audience examples, questions, and contexts. Come ready to interact! Bonus: we’ll map our models to leadership principles from Simon Sinek’s popular work Know Your Why. We’ll examine the concept of collective impact in CCD work and how to incorporate more collaborative models to strengthen our organizations. Many Christian and faith-based organizations are rooted in the community,  answering the call to serve their neighbors in need. However, when it concerns funding, they often find they must abandon their Christian ideals in order to design programs that appeal to funders and grant-making agencies.

Join this class with Ashlie James from AtlantaGLOW to learn how to empower CCD practitioners with practical strategies. Become equipped to design and implement purpose driven program models that are both impactful and responsive to community needs, while also increasing your competitiveness and attractiveness to funders.
