Faith Inspired institutions and HBCUs are closing their doors, selling valuable land to the highest bidder or simply becoming stagnant with deferred maintenance, under- utilized assets and membership/admission decline.
Fishing Differently™ training teaches social entrepreneurs to F.I.S.H., which means to leverage faith/financial capital with intellectual and social capital to enhance human capital and achieve the social impact missions of their institution. We connect those that want to invest and develop in underserved communities to the leaders with boots on the ground, making efforts to strengthen those communities.
Distressed communities need these institutions to thrive so they can continue to support local networks and initiatives. They provide passion, a depth of knowledge, and an understanding of their community’s needs and circumstances.
The Oikos Institute for Social Impact’s mission is to help BIPOC anchor institutions such as houses of worship and HBCU’s harness the power of their assets in order to be a catalyst for communal transformation and economic mobility.
From September 20th to the 22nd 2023, we are collaborating with Trinity Church Wall Street to connect faith-inspired leaders, social entrepreneurs and place-based investors to help faith- based anchor institutions develop this asset-based approach to community development.
At the Fishing Differently™ Conference we will:
Activate leaders across the country to support shared national infrastructure for participants to accelerate their work and reduce risks associated with redevelopment
Surface shared opportunities (and challenges) for community development planning
Support participants in the process of co-creating regional learning communities where they can share best practices and lessons learned from community development planning after the event
Help connect impact dollars to the institutions committed to social impact located in the heart communities that need them
